Racism is one of the worst things that humans can express. The hate that it must take for someone to inflict such pain on another person simply because of the color of their skin is astonishing. Theoretically the African-American Civil Rights Movement and the steps that have been taken since then should have abolished racism, just as it abolished slavery. However, racism still continues to be an alarming issue not only in our country but across the world. When Barack Obama was elected president of the United States, it seemed like the country would be changed forever. Racism seemed to be rooted even deeper into our country, so deep that even having a caring, kind, and inclusive African American president did not change certain people’s views. This response made things clear, that there are simply bad people out there. Just recently I read a news story about an eight year old biracial boy that was hung by a fourteen year old white boy. Upon reading this there are a few things that come to mind such as how awful it is that we live in a world where this type of thing can happen but then I realized: some people are evil. They’re full of hate. It doesn’t matter what age someone is, if they’re a bad person they are going to do bad things and these racists are so set in their ways and so hateful that there is no way of changing who they are. It’s a scary thought to know that there will always be forms of racism existent in this world because there will always be hateful people. I don’t know why such hate exists in this world but I do know that it will always be there. The world we live in is one that involves hate, and violence. It’s a world that has made great strides in the past century but we also have a ways to go and no matter what happens we need to be understanding that no amount of education or work can change that there are bad people amongst us, we can’t control that. All we can do is be our best selves and continue to work at stopping the hate from spreading.
