While growing up and attending both middle school and high school, the name Rosa Parks is typically known by everyone. For some they know her as a person that changed our country forever, other’s know her as that bus lady who didn’t move. Before reading From Civil Rights to Megachurches, I had a good understanding of how important Rosa Parks and what she did was for our country, but I was also unaware that there were so many others before her that were making a stand in and around Montgomery. I also didn’t realize that there were many factors leading up to her arrest which secured that this large movement was ignited. People often say that one small act of defiance can change the world but in reality, that’s dependent on many other factors. In this case, parks was a huge part of the community to begin with. “Rosa Parks transcended the social stratifications of the black community and Montgomery as a whole. She was friends with field hands and college professors”. This shows how Parks was so involved in the community and in knowing and those around her. This was what ignited the news of her arrest and turned it into what it became.
