Why should we care about social change?

Throughout the history of the world, the human population has been advancing.  This advancement has occurred not only in numbers but also in knowledge.  Social change has been at the center of human advancement.  Throughout history there are names that hold so much weight for changes that had been made.  These names range from Martin Luther King to Eleanor Roosevelt.  In a modern world that is so focused on economies, technology and entertainment, it has become increasingly important that we continue to focus on social change.  One of the most recent and prominent examples of social change was the 2015 Supreme Court ruling in which gay marriage became legal throughout the country.  This seemed to be a major turning point in our countries history.  This level of social change immediately helped create another sense of equality in the United States.  Social change has never been achieved on its own.  We need the people of this country to continue doing their part in order to continue social change. Racism as a whole continues to be prevalent in our country to this very day.  I believe that in order to change our country forever and to achieve social change within racism, our country needs to admit that we have a problem, and work towards fixing that problem.  Of course, some could disagree on the grounds that some people are set in their ways and are not open to change but I would challenge those people by asking them, how do you know for sure unless you truly give your best effort?
